Project Information
My mother in law requested I make her a cutting board this past Christmas. This is what I came up with. Its hard maple with thick walnut strips. I had to flatten it by hand because it was wider than my jointer and I did not yet have my planer. I did not mind doing it by hand actually, I used my recently passed grandfather's old Stanley #3. I made a jig for the router table to create finger holes on the ends using a core box bit. After sanding to 300 grit, I soaked it for a couple of days in mineral oil, then wiped off the excess. She seemed happy with it.
