Project Information

I just started turning bowls and these are the first 2 I put a finish on. Also my first natural edge bowl. Turned green to finish and let dry a couple of weeks even though they dried faster. Finish is natural stain and lacquer since that was sitting closest to me on the bench.

Posted them online for folks to see before I posted here, they sold in about 3 minutes :)

Thanks everyone. This mineral stained stuff is always fun you never know what you will get. I got all the mineral stained pieces where a crew was cutting down about 15 trees. I have about a pickup load the clear stuff I left.

Jeff, I have a fairly big following on Twitter (ghost1066) and that is where I sell 90% of what I do. I do some craft shows but good ones are hard to find or terribly expensive. These are the first bowls I put online most of what I sell are game calls or watercolors.

If you look at the bowls the dark areas are mineral stained. This comes from the soil and is completely random. A tree growing right beside this one that is the same species might not have any. In fact that happened with these out of 15 trees only a few had the staining and then it was random within those trees. I took wood from maybe 4 of the fifteen and only the stained pieces.

Poplar with mineral staining is highly sought after by many woodworkers since it can have so many colors in it.

Love them. They are thin and the grain is totally amazing. Great job!
