Project Information
Here is a stand / mobile cabinet that I made for my Delta 560 planer.
I got a pocket hole jig from Harbor Freight and tested it out by making a cabinet carcass out of some birch ply I had left over from another project. Never used the super popular Kreg Jig, so can't compare it, but the HF one is a solid piece of aluminum and was pretty easy to use.
I made the door, drawer, drawer front out of the same birch ply and pine from some old Ikea bed slats that I had left over from a bed frame I tossed. The top is two 3/4" MDF sheets glued/screwed then edged with some more of the Ikea pine. The casters are $2 specials from Harbor Freight and aren't really that good, but for $2 I'm not going to complain much.
The cabinet is is frameless euro style because I had some left over Ikea hinges from my laundry room remodel that I wanted to use.
Costs:
Birch Ply: scraps
Pine: scraps
MDF: scraps
Hinge: $5 for the pair from Ikea. These are actually really nice hinges, especially so at $2.50 each. All you need to install them is a 1 3/8" or 35mm Forstner bit. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70132375/
Casters: $8 for 4 from Harbor Freight
Drawer slides: $5 for a cheap 14" pair from Home Depot.
Pulls: Little Ikea pulls. $1.20 for the pair from Ikea clearance section.
This wasn't really a planned out project. Just kind of slapped it together over a few lunch breaks from work. I haven't mounted the planer on it to see how it is…hope its not too top heavy with the planer attached.
Please excuse the mess in my garage!
