Project Information

This is the project that started my love of woodworking. Originally, I planned it to be about 5 inches high. After a couple of bad cuts on the table saw, it ended up being just shy of 4 inches in height. After I put the poker chips in, I have about 1/16th of an inch to spare under the lid. Friends tell me they like the sleek design. I just smile knowingly.

Side note: I have been stalking everyone's work on LJ for about a year. Your creativity and craftsmanship are truly inspiring. I decided to finally join and show some of my work from over the years. Knowing that I will be posting on LJ in the future ups the craftsmanship bar for me.

It is a sleek looking box. And I love the card drawer on the side.

I have lots of interesting design features happen by accident or through the repairing of one. But I won't tell if you don't tell.

Great looking piece.

All of us have had some unintentional design modifications. Compensate and conquer.

There are no mistakes or "bad cuts", just "Design Opportunities" or interesting off cuts to work into another project.

Nicely done!!

I too like the sleek look of it. The wood grain is beautiful. As far as the cutting mistake is concerned, look at it this way, you lost an inch of height, I messed up one day and lost an inch of thumb!! So it can always be worse. Looking forward to seeing more of your projects, Great job.
