New Lathe

So my gal purchased a Rikon 70-050VS for my Christmas gift and I've been making shavings ever since. I'm learning each time I pick up the tools. Several folks told me "the lathe is the cheap part", and man, they were right! I'm learning how to sharpen, and I've already decided I didn't like my bowl gouge, so I reground the bevel! Anyway, I've finished a couple bottle stoppers and tried a couple bowls…...

Very nice work too. Great to learn on. I will be waiting for the fancy stuff…LOL Great job!

BTW I was told if you choose to learn to turn you will learn to sharpen. I think they were right.

Welcome to the addiction!

Consider making your own tools from metalworking bits from Enco. Any tools made from round or square stock are ideal candidates for being shop made. And it is great practice. About 1/3 of my lathe tools are shop made.

You're doing great. I'm sure find much pleasure in your new lathe.
