Project Information

This past year my daughter was furnishing her apt with anything she could find off of Craigslist when one day she came upon this chair at the curb in the neighborhood.

It looked and felt structurely sound. And it didn't stink! Made ya wonder why it was being thrown out. Anyway it was from Scan and made of teak. Well a month or so ago the cheap plywood seat finally succumbed to dry rot and busted through.

So I glued up some 1 3/4" poplar to test a new skill of seat shaping. I've never done one before so I chose poplar since it was about the least expensive wood I could find. I wasn't about to practice on real teak. Anyway it was a very messy job but the angle grinder works great. There is a lot of sanding you have to do after finishing with the grinder and it creates a lot of saw dust so wear a mask if you chose to try this. I'm happy enough with the poplar seat so I'll just leave it at that.

I dyed the seat with General Finishes Vintage Cherry dye and a wipe on poly.

Cool! Now, are you gonna build one from scratch?

If you do make sure you do a blog on it. I like that design.

Dallas; Although chairs are on my list of things to learn to make, I have other more pressing projects ahead of chairs. So a blog won't be coming anytime soon. Thanks for the comments though!
