Project Information

I enjoy working in the "Dog House", my "home away from home". The Dog House is my little spot, actually the 1/2 of the garage where I "poke around" and make attempts at being creative. I have recently finished my wife's jewelry cabinet, took me way to long to complete. The cabinet is the largest and most complex piece that I have even made. Except for the hinges and the screws, I hand made all of the hardware, lending more to being creative and the desire to add iron to the "mix of stuff in my bag." Someday I would like a MIG or TIG welder for the small work, I was checking some prices on them when I fine young man offered to TIG weld all of the handles for me for 20 bucks!!! Anyhooo, I wanted to add some pics and share what I have created for my Beautiful Bride. With a Note: "My Bride, I am sorry I took so long to finish this". Also, the finish is 3 Coats of Watco Dark Walnut Danish Oil on Wormy Maple, with a final finish of Clear Briwax.

The entire project looks great, but the hand made hardware is incredible.

Thanks for sharing.

The style and design…I like it, like it. My wife has been wanting me to make her a jewelry box.
She got tired of waiting and bought a cheap little box that doesnt even hold all her jewelry.
Your piece puts the spur down to remind me to do something.
Beautiful box.

Using wooden grooves for the slide-out sides is a great idea; first I've seen it used in a jewelry box like this. It's hard to notice at first, but it reminds me of the pocket door slide systems I've seen on larger projects. I like everything about this project, from the design, the wood used, the DIY hardware, etc., great job.

Big Mistake… do you realize the cost of jewelry to fill it? LOL…

Very well done… I like the woods and handle accents… great combination.

That is a total masterpiece from design to finish! That is some amazing wood. I'll bet your bride realizes that masterpieces aren't created overnight. That dark walnut DO really popped the curl in that maple. I gotta try that. Thanks for posting this. If you could, please post the dimensions???

The saying goes "A man can love 100 woman, but only a real man can 1 woman a 100 ways. I bet you get to use the other half of the garage after turning that piece out. Great job.
