Grizzly G0555LX Review and Demo

I made a quick video giving a review of my Grizzly G0555LX, hopefully someone will find it useful in making a decision on which band saw they want to purchase. Thanks for watching.

You didn't mention the tension adjustment knob. This saw looks pretty much identical to my Jet 14" (except this model doesn't require a riser block because it comes tall already). The tension adjustment knob for mine was a total PIA to adjust. So, I added the Carter ratchet system. Unfortunately it is not compatible with the Jet tension relief set up. Had to choose, so went with the Carter ratchet system. It is so much easier (I change blades from time to time). However, I found that I really missed the quick tension relief lever, so went ahead and ordered that from Carter. That did not fit my Jet 14", so I am without that luxury. If the Jet adjustment knob was about 1" or more higher (and I think the particular threads that Carter uses are a plus), then I would have been good to go. Anyway, thanks for your video & review. I am planning to purchase a 2nd saw for a dedicated resaw unit and will definitely consider the Grizzly now.

Good review! And nice mods to the dust collection. I would make a "flap switch" of thin ply to allow you to shut your saw off without having to hunt for the button. I did this on my 17" Extreme Series Grizz and highly recommend it.

Drew, THANK YOU.

I can't tell you how much I've been pushing Grizzly to do this type of review. They have amazing videos on their website, but they don't actually fire up the machines and show you how they cut and what they sound like. It drives me crazy.

I have been contemplating this BS or upgrading to the G0513 versions. Did you look into the larger versions when you were making the purchase? Would you get the 14" + riser kit again or would you look for something already built for 12" resaw?

Thanks again for the review, super job.

Pendledad, I was looking into a larger frame saw such as the G0513. It would be nice to have the 2hp motor and a 1" blade so I could do some serious re-sawing, however it wasn't in my budget and the space it would take up in my shop would have been to much. Maybe if I get my dream shop one day I will upgrade to a larger saw, but for now this saw has been great for me.

Thanks, Drew! I just received my G0555LX last week (early Christmas present from my wife), and my experience has been the same as yours-I'm very pleased with the overall quality and operation of the saw. I put a 1/4" blade on it for general work, and I've got a 1/2" Wood Slicer on the way for resawing.

Your DC modifications look great, too, by the way.

Thanks again,
Doug in Kansas
