This project allowed me to try my hand at half dovetails and inlay work. I used my inverted router to hollow out the inside of the box and create the groove for the inlay.
The art of inlay design and manufacture has intrigued me for decades since I taught near one of the few companies that use to make inlay. So I put that on my to-do list right after vacuum pressing the curved ends of a sleigh cradle I am working on for the soon to arrive grandkid.
We're working aloong parallel lines - I'm working on boxes from the solid at the moment. Like the inlay you've put on the top, and the rounding over of the base as well as the lid.
looks really nice, I like the touch of the dovetail on the lid.
need to get yourself a lathe and some pen turning kits to replace those bics you've got in there though!!
It's not mistakes we make but, "character marks". We like this box WU, don't sell it short. The inlay is a nice touch. I want to try my luck at one of these. (so many projects, not enough sleep)
This is a beautiful box. Mistakes??? I have often said that there are no mistakes in woodworking. There are only opportunities for adding additional details.
