Project Information

A client contacted me about two special purpose cabinets. This one is basically a corkboard for notes; he wanted them hidden, as all the notes were somewhat ugly…so he wanted a cabinet. No problem-o.

Sooooo…...

This is made of cherry, with paduak corbels…and of course the cork. The panels are solid cherry, resawn, bookmatched. 2' 6" high, 18" wide. Euro-style hinges, with a closing dampner. Finish is just two coats of shellac and wax. Opting to not stain, to let the naturarl cherry color come through….I can't possibley screw up that finish….LOL.

Very attractive project. Nicely constructed and great choice of woods-especially the bookmatched panels.

Having just hung some cork for my lovely bride in the kitchen I can say that this is a much better idea! Very nice.

Again, very well done! Very much like your "Essential Oils" cabinet, but slightly different staining.

Very nice cabinet. How did you handle the curve on the middle stile? Did you just sand to fit, or something more elaborate?
Great job!

pintodeluxe You mean the curve on the top stile? There is a very gentle curve at that mid point - I just sanded it with a sanding block just a bit…that's all it took.

That's what I figured. I always want to complicate curves. In my mind I'm thinking router trammel?
Nice to know it was just a sanding block.
Thanks!
