Project Information

The first ornament is made from cedar and is the very first try. Kinda fat huh? After I put it on a diet it began to turn into the other two. Haaa Haaa

The next two are from cherry. As I got braver they got thinner and longer. I really enjoyed making these as it is so relaxing. It is also challenging to get them down in size and longer in length. What's so much fun is that you have no pattern. Just start turning and let your imagination run.

They aren't finished yet as my wife is the finish person. I don't do finishes so good. I am thinking about trying some of the stuff Carl Jacobson or Capt Eddie use as it can be used on the lathe.

I would like to make enough that all the women in our family could choose one off the tree but that may have to wait till next Christmas.

Very nice!
One of the things I like best about ornaments is the freedom of design. You have NO limits. Fat or thin is great. But I agree…...The thinner is much more challenging.

Keep it up.

Thanks for the comments. I am loving this. Has gotten kinda morish feeling. I went today and got some smaller cedar branches 3" up to 5" to do some more. When I got home I turned another one. I have got to make a shorter tool rest as the only one I have right now is 14" long and hard to get up close as I need to.

Very nice first ornaments.I like the first one, it is a cool design.
I am planning to do some work on a large batch for next year, this year is a bit to late. I will have to try them this though as the ones I have made in the past I bought the 7mm kit and tuned them on a mandrel.
