Project Information

WHEN I WAS FOUR YEARS OLD, I GOT MY FIRST LIONEL TRAINS.
THESE WERE HAND ME DOWNS FROM MY OLDER COUSIN,
HE OUT GREW THEM AND EVENTUALLY WENT ON TO DRIVE THE REAL THING WITH THE BNSF RAILROAD.

I HAVE BEEN ADDICTED EVER SINCE AND THE COLLECTION HAS NEVER STOPPED GROWING.
ONCE I EVEN DECIDED TO GET INTO A CHEAPER HOBBY…LIKE WOODWORKING (HA HA).

I BUILT THIS LAMP MADE OUT OF 2 X 12, THE SIGNAL PARTS ON THE LAMP ARE FROM A PIECE THAT I BOUGHT OUT OF A GREAT TRAIN CATALOG CALLED SCHRADERS.
THE SHELF IS SIMPLE 1 X 4 KNOTTY PINE LEFT ROUGH AND STAINED EARLY AMERICAN AND LACQUERED. THE ROAD BED IS PARTICLE BOARD TO LOOK LIKE ROCK BALLAST.

EXCEPT FOR THESE ON DISPLAY, MOST OF THE COLLECTION IS STORED AWAY FOR SAFE KEEPING.
MY SON MAKES FUN OF ME BY SAYING "PLAY WITH THE TRAINS ?!? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND????"

Ray, Great way to display the train. I like the fact that added some character to the display as well with the trees and such.

I really like the lamps! My brother in law collects trains and I bet he might like a lamp like this or similar one on his desk. Great work and thanks for the post.

Ray,

This is a wonderful way to display your trains. I had several as a child but have no idea what happened to them. Putting them on display like this really focuses attention on them. I love the lamp. Putting the crossing light in it was a wonderful idea.

Coincidence. I was watching DIY the other night (Chris Chianelli's model show) and they were showcasing Model Railroading. The guys entire room was shelving that held various engines and cars.

Don't know if he built his own display, tho'

Nice job.
