Project Information

Right out of High School I joined the US Navy as an to see the world… You know it's not just a job, it's an adventure. Well after the first 4 years were done I decided to go all the way to 20 years. For all the troubles that I dealt with, I now have no worry where my mortgage payment is coming from and a BUNCH of memories. Along the way I got married and we had two sons. My family reminds me of all the things I have done outside of the Navy, but I needed something to display what I did when I was in the Navy.

When I retired I was given the choice of receiving a small shadow box that held the US Flag, my medals, and other memorabilia, or I could accept partial payment for something else. I decided I wanted something else, and built my own. I looked at a bunch of designs and decided to combine the best of all that I had seen and this is the finished product.

This is made from Red Oak, but stained walnut to match the walnut executive desk that I acquired many years ago. In addition to this table, I have a CPO hot box, and two 5" bullets (from a destroyer 5" gun) that I turned the projectiles for. These are a work in progress because they will eventually be floor lamps.

Very nice Brian and you have every right to be proud of your contribution. This is a fitting project that displays your memorabilia proudly, as it should be.

By the way this is a nice build and I really like the legs.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for your service as well.

Well done Chief - I'd say that would earn you a 4.0 grade. Gold Hash marks and crow, tells me that you stayed out of trouble while you were in. Thanks for serving your country. Great project to display your mementos.

Didn't make Chief - but did get up to HM2 - served 1964-1970. Anchors Away!!!!

Hi Brian

Beautiful job on your "I Love Me Table". My pastor has a similar display case hanging on his wall in his office. I always thought how nice it was that the items were on display and not in a trunk some where. Thank you for your service.

God Bless

Chief,

Very nice table! I was in the Navy from 1980-1990, got out as a PO1. My daughter joined up last year, and is finishing up her school for avionics. Please post the rounds when you get a chance.

Great table, Chief! Would love to see the lamps when you get them done. I'm career Air Force, but no hard feelings… I've actually spend most of my career joint service, and have quite a few squid friends ;)
