Project Information

This concept was borrowed with permission from fellow LJ'r Mr. Doug Kremer's Fishing Chair. I assisted coaching my 3 sons through baseball for 20 years and was usually assigned the soft toss area. I always wanted a decent seat that would compliment the 5 gallon bucket that held the soft toss baseballs. Several varieties were available at the retail level, but none of them were very comfortable. When I saw Doug's first fishing chair, I immediately latched onto the concept and started developing a set of plans I could work with. From those plans we worked on cutting diagrams and quickly came up with the idea of cutting a circle in the bucket frames to fit over the bucket and spread the weight out over the rim of the bucket. As usual, I overbuilt it with 1/2" SS bolts, SS screws attaching the seat and back, and 3/4" marine plywood laminated on 4/4 yellow pine. The seat and back slats are also made out of yellow pine. All edges are chamfered and sanded smooth ready for finishing. We also offer personalization on any of the seat or back slats (picture 4).

We originally designed and fabricated the Bucket Chair with a matching fixed seat and back, just like Doug's original chair. After showing the Bucket Chair around, we had multiple requests for a moveable middle hatch that would allow a hunter to drop his birds in, or a fisherman to drop his catch in, and/or for a baseball coach to retrieve baseballs from the bucket for soft toss. Whatever anybody does with them after that is their business and we don't ask questions. My Brother-In-Law suggested a unit w/o a back and from there we also came up with a child size one to match their parents Bucket Seat.

We offer three versions of the fishing bucket seat - a Bucket Chair with a tilting back, moveable middle hatch and the exclusive circle cut on the bottom of the bucket frames, which fits over a 5 gallon bucket like a lid. We also offer an Adult size Bucket Seat with a moveable middle hatch and the exclusive circle cut on the bottom of the bucket frames. In addition, we offer a child size Bucket Seat for the little ones to go out with Mom or Dad on their hunting / fishing / camping / tailgating adventures. As such, we offer the Adult and Child Bucket Seats as a set i.e. Father / Daughter, Father / Son, Mother / Son, Mother / Daughter.

Thanks for looking and another big shout out to Doug Kremer for the concept!

Jerry - those looks awesome! I like the ones with no back on it, with the hinged middle seat slat - the back really isnt THAT necessary, but is a nice feature!

Makes me want to build another one! :)

thanks for the posting and the credit!

These are great. I always take 5 gallon buckets with me fishing, and there's never really anywhere good to sit where I tend to go-sharp lava rocks don't make the most comfortable seat. I'll have to try and make one of these. Great job!

What a cool design (even though I know you'll get tired of the porta potty comments!) This looks like a very handy and functional project.

Thanks to everyone who commented. Doug - send me an e-mail if you need my drawings. Andy, you are so right in so many ways. Maybe someday they will read the whole writeup and realize this is generally a family oriented site. Mitchota - crocodile tears dude - fishing in HI, boy do I feel sorry for you and the lava rocks - HA! Mloy365 - what would be the best way to market these in ice fishing country? Not much ice fishing in the Republic of Texas.
