Project Information

Previous: Another Leaner . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Next: More Dam Oak

This is a variation of the Leaner, but with dowels used to extend the front edges and also supported with a dowel. In addition, the edges are purposly separated.

Construction: Apart from the vertical support and the base, the card holder was assembled dry, then CA glue applied from the back. Oak dowels were specifically selected for use as extensions for the front edges so the application of CA glue from behind would allow wicking fully to the front faces.

Wood: Both the back face as well as the two front edges(lips) are of reclaimed Hickory flooring. All dowels are Oak. And the base is Brazillian Cherry.

Finish: Lazy Laquer spray bomb.

All comments & criticisms welcome.

Nice one Rance. I did not know the CA glue would wick into the dowels. That makes assembly easy. with a little flooring, you can make an army of these holders!!

Knot bad, Rance. Another wicked project.
How long did you have to hold those things to glue? Or, did you use accelerator? I know you're good in the car with one. So, I figure the shop won't be much more of a challenge for ya.
It's great to see this floor wood standing on it's own.
How about some more of that Fredericksburg dam wood you have? That ought to sell nicely at the Art Gallery in Downtown Fredericksburg.

Thanks guys. Roger, I'm always a little off kilter. :) Jim, these dowels were fairly short, but one of the Oaks (Red or White), can't remember which one, is particularly porous. You can actually blow bubbles in a glass using a 4" dowel. Rod, I love your Puns. More Dam projects on the way. These were tight so no holding necessary till it dried. The 'cruise control' method.

Red Oak is much more porous : )
I would have thought that the glue would have dried before reaching the other end..what a novel approach to gluing , rance : )

Another cool "designed by Rance" original. They are so neat and tight looking. Nothing wrong with that rattle can lacquer. For some reason, I get along much better with Deft brand than others (I like their spray tip better).

John/Joe/Don/Andy, thanks. The key is to make nothing square. :)

Thanks Dusty & Rod. Maybe I'll remember this time. Oh Rod, as for signal lights… Red means Stop, Green means Go, and Yellow means Go REAL FAST!!!

How many businesses do you have Rance?

Do you have more business cards or business card holders?
