Project Information

A few months back I posted a project for the windows and headliner of my Dad's 55 COE he was building.

Some LJ's wanted to see the finished product, so here it is. The bed is made entirely of wood. He built a dog house toolbox behind the cab for a spare tire and tools. Not the best box, but it works for him. The truck runs great and gets lots of looks. I'll be borrowing it to make furniture deliveries more fun!
I made the shift knob on a CNC as well as the cover for the old fuel door with the bottle opener attached.

what a beauty, i wonder why the dog box wasn't a bit nicer looking , to go with the rest of the truck, i know its your dads truck so i guess that is what he wanted, but i can sure think of a few different ways it could have looked…i was wondering what you used to attach the wood to the ceiling in the cab, ive got an older chevy i might want to do the same type of thing…have fun making those deliveries..grizz

I agree about the box. When it becomes my truck, I'll build something else. There were a few things I would have done differently, but it's his and it's not a show truck. He was on a tight budget and it only took 6 moths to build, so it looks pretty good for being built in his backyard. Tricky to drive, but its fun.

Wow! Does this ever bring back my 11th year of life! The rest is so purty, I wouldn't even have noticed the box if y'all hadn't brought it up. Nicely done.

Grizzman,
The cab did not have a headliner when my dad picked it up. He built a curved frame to match the contour of the roof and attached the frame to the celing. Then he pin nailed the T&G to the frame. I wish I had some photos to explain better. I'll be doing the same type headliner in my 72 ford soon and I'll document how I do it. Mine has a headliner, so I'll probably remove it to have a pattern for my frame.
Hope that helps.

My dad standing next to his creation. He was a carpenter all his life, so this is not too shabby for an old hammer and nails guy.

How it started

Next to my 72 One ton

I cut my teeth on a 55 after driving a 49 for many years. Double clutching through urban rush hour traffic. Makes a man of you. What a great project.
