Project Information

We have been canning for many years, so this Jelly Cupboard was long over due. As a matter of fact, as if by magic, within one hour of getting the cupboard from the shop and into the dining room it was FULL!

I really enjoyed building this thing, as it was rather straight forward with dowel reinforced lap joints, ship lap backside, early hinges and fasteners (restoration parts), and punched tin panels. No, I did not punch these myself but I did have to re-punch much of it as they needed cleaned up. I have additional galvanized sheeting if I ever get the hair up my butt to try something original, however we are pleased how this turned out.

As I mention in the title, I made this out of Soft Maple. I ran into a bargain price of $2/BF for the 12/4 Maple so I jumped on 200BF of it. It sure was different, in a nice way, to work with a softer wood for once as I had only built with Ash before hand.

I finished with a Golden Oak stain and treated the front door as if it were a restoration. I wanted to leave the impression that this may have been refinished, but not too much so. I recreated an original type of wooden latch with wear marks and all.

Oldtool +1. I really like it. It reminds me of a Potato Bin my mother used to have in our kitchen when I was growing up-a fond memory.

Very nice Mike. I especially like the flat-head screws and the lap joints. I recall you picked up your maple in Hutto. Nice score.

Waw, I like the way you finished it, it looks beautiful. I'll have to make at least three units like this for mom, she really cans too much! Actually no, she doesn't. Maybe I eat too much actually ;)

Thanks MC. But it is NOT really so sweet by taste anyways, but very good with chips! All that 'orange' colored sauce is Habanero Sauce and the 'green' is Jalapeno Relish and Nacho Slices.

 or should I say 8-P or 8-O

Thanks for the kudos guys. It is good to be back and posting projects again.

Looks almost as good as the contents; looks like it's time to break out the chips. I really like the overall piece.
