Project Information

I surrender hard like General Lee giving his sword to General Grant to end the Civil War to invest some time into something that would help me in the studio. I summoned all the coolest scrap knotty curly figured pecan and walnut because I ll look at them for a long time. Like Michelangelo who liked curly grain marble for the challenge of carving ; I too feel a certain connection to figured lumber for the challenge of fashioning it . I made a chisel holder to replace the constant pushing my well honed ,expensive two cherry chisels to one side or the other side of my bench to make room. I glued two pieces of spalted pecan together with a 3/4'' walnut on the inside two ends. I then made the legs to hold the ends up with a 6'' piece and dado to hold the top to cradle it between the walnut. Pretty simple task but very effective for I feel great to have them up and at arms length but organized. The next thing I will surrender but easily too is to buy a new pair of work boots to replace the worn out souls I call shoes. All this and Heaven too.

I always take a picture of my new boots next to my old when they pass the baton, feel a little nostalgic for a bit but then forget about them as I luxuriate, just as I'm sure you will always delight in this new holder.

A warm and a pretty rack you have there. I've not surrendered yet and keep my chisels in a drawer but I guess that's why they call you Arthouse.

That will make working in your shop all that more enjoyable! It's always nice to be able to make some things for just yourself from time to time.

Thats a beautiful and simple design and great use for pretty wood. Thanks.

Hey Gene.. if that is the state your shoes get before you replace them… send them to me.. those are still good!! most of the shoe laces are still intact, the fronts aren't falling off.. good stuff. LOL

Arthouse - that chisel stand really appeals to the primordial me. A nice solid piece of wood that serves a purpose - reminding me of why I love wood. A++ from me.

I've noticed we tend to do more for others than ourselves so often. It's good to treat ourselves to a few items as well. You've made a lowly tool rack into a work of art ; nice job. It's really pretty.

That is a work of art, Arthouse . . . something I've had in the back of my mind to do, but just haven't. It is beautiful and enjoyable to look at while working!
