Project Information
This is a custom tall cane made for a gentleman who wanted something special in a cane and he liked the unique grain of Ziricote. When working with this wood you never know what pattern will show up (or disappear) when you whittle away to shape it. No matter how much I try to read into a raw piece of stock, the pattern is rarely what I expect as the grain can suddenly blossom into an exciting display of contrasting colors or disappear and fade with each pull of the rasp or file. For this piece I was fortunate to be able to get the shape that I needed for a comfortable grip and have the grain show it's glory.
The handle is Ziricote and the collars are Ziricote and Redheart and the shaft is solid Macawood.
My goal is to provide a comfortable walking aid that is also sturdy and has a sense of style.
