Project Information
So, a few weeks back wife and I were invited over to a family-in-law BBQ. Aside from a couple of resin chairs, everybody sat on the railing or on dining room chairs on the patio and an idea come to mind. Several years ago I was bequeathed a knock down patio chair from a dear old friend that I used to build with (Rex was a few months shy of 101 ys. when he bid us adieu). It also occurred to me that he had given me the plans he used for the chair saying he would never build another. Well, I found the plans and bought some clear KD Doug-fir and got to it. As I was drilling pilot holes and plugs to cover the screws (56/chair to be exact) I remembered why Rex said he would never build another. The chair comes in two pieces that slide together and lock for seating, or come apart with the seat portion sliding into the back recess of the upright piece. Thinking of an appropriate finish that would hold up with little or no maintenance, I remember that SteveinMarin used a deck stain on one of his projects, so I opted for a can of Thompson's Water Seal / Deck Stain. I know it ain't a Steinway, but it was fun building something simple that didn't put me back to far in material expenses, and if the receiving party doesn't like it, I'm sure it will make fine kindling
