Project Information

Finally finished the lantern! I started it maybe five months ago and got busy with other builds, leaving this to collect dust. This lantern is made to decorate the inside of your house and will hold up well outdoors because it is made with Cedar. I cut the glass myself using glass from old sun porch windows I tore down a while back. I decided to white wash the sides, the entire interior, and leaving the roofs the natural color. I wasn't going to white wash it at first, but I am glad I did. With the roof, my intentions, if it is placed outside, is to eventually get that great grey weathered look to it. Thanks for looking!

Great work. I always like projects that re-use materials. The color contrast is a stand-out. How did you figure a way to protect the lid from the candle heat?

VERY nice. I have thought of making one like that for years. Looking at yours encourages me to get to it!

Thanks everyone. Nomercadies….. the intention is to use the battery powered candles but a real candle will work. The stipulation is that the candle needs be pretty short, no longer than 4", which leaves roughly 9" of space between the flame and the roof. A lot of the heat escapes through the holes in the lid.

Ok, got it. Thank you. My dream is to have my little backyard surrounded by lit Dietz 20 Junior lanterns hanging on each fence post, but your lantern just kicked Dietz out of bed.
