Project Information

Spent the weekend making 45 rubber band guns for a our church's Royal Rangers boys club. Got a lot of thank you's and big smiles when we handed each boy their own gun to keep.

Use some recycled pine shelving and spindles that never quite made it into a chair. Aside from the praise from the boys, the best part was quality time spent in the shop with my father and brother-in law.

Great job on these. Talk about a repetitive project! You did these quick and I am sure the kids loved them.

Brandon,
I've never seen these. Thanks for sharing. Does the clothes pin actually work as a holder for the rubber band and a trigger?

I love seeing these small production runs from home workshops.

Oh, and thanks for that wonderful smiling face in your avatar. That's a heart warmer.

The clothes pin does hold the rubber band. A notch at the end of the barrel keeps the band in place. To fire press down with your thumb. I googled for rubber band guns and came up with all kinds of designs. This design seemed the easiest to mass produce. As for my avatar, I have three kids, two are boys so yea she has me wrapped around her finger. If your lucky enough to have a daddy's little girl, you'll know what I mean.

45 little minds will now be permanently warped and pre-disposed to violent behavior for the rest of their lives :^)

When I was in pre-school, the school master (we called him Papa Bill) would take a stub of 1x and nail a short stub of garden hose to it….

Leaving us to decid the age old question….

cops and robbers? or cowboys and indians?

Man did we love Papa Bill !

Yes, that'll make a bunch o kids happy. When I was young, (bout a few weeks ago), it was always one or the other as far as cops n robbers, or cowboys n indians.

I did about a dozen of that style for the in-laws one xmas. caught hell from the old man about all the rubber bands all over the house.

My kid (about 12 at the time) fell in love with some like these, we made a handful: http://www.backyardartillery.com/rbguns

what good is a shop if you can't have some fun. Hey, I made 16 water canons for the kids party this past weekend, maybe I should post one in Projects….

Well done and for a good cause. each kid felt special that day getting their own rubber band guns. I get rubber bands that are from a friend that works at a hospital and I get a gallon of them at a time . They are use to hold the plastic covers on the new bedding I think and they are about 6 inches long and blue. I use them for my marshmallow catapults I make. so if you know some one with a job at the hospital they could get you lots of them for free.

Ahhh…Rubber band guns and Royal Rangers. Two things from my childhood that I remember fondly.

My great-grandpa made me my rubber band gun (I still have it too). I use to set up little green army men all over my room then my brother and I would post up in the top of our bunk bed with a bag full of rubber bands. This would provide hours of entertainment (and my mom with hours of peace).
