Project Information

This is my jig for the contest. I call it the wood jack jig.The jig is used for supporting a work piece that sits on top of the wood that is clamped in a vice, like when tracing the tails of a dovetail to the pin board. Its nicer than trying to adjust the work to you hand plane since you adjust the jig to the work piece! Or you could use it when drilling and screwing in a butt joint! The jig is not complicated to make. I got the idea from shopnotes. I just used scrap around the shop. This is a great time to use those small pieces of ply that you don't want to throw out! I used 3/4'' pine ply for all the parts. The little knob is for locking everything down. I didn't have a plastic knob so I just made my own! Gave it a sand put some polly on it along with some wax and it's done! If you need to support some extra large wood you can make more than one.
I love this jig, I think it's a real time saver!

That is a great idea… beats stacking small pieces of wood (that either fall or get knocked over). Thanks for posting!

Let Stumpy know. Nice and simple. I might have used some plastic handled knobs but maybe they would be too big?

Interesting that we have all this 'good wood" laying around? :)

Good idea-I can see using that behind my Leigh dovetail jig.

I think you are onto something here. If the "elbow" could raise and lower a small platform, say 4"x4" or so, just a few inches and keep it level, I bet you would have a marketable jig. Of course, the average DIY would copy it for their shop, por ejemplo Kerfmaker, doh.

For the dovetail marking, without a platform, it works even if the top of the other board is not perfectly horizontal (assuming the worbench is horizontal).

I can't think of a single reason not to make a couple/few of those when I get home tonight.

Thanks for posting it. o/
