Project Information

Funny thing… just the other day I was asking about the price of teak in the forum. About an hour ago I see the teak patio chaise sitting by the dumpster. I dragged it down into my basement and emerged with what you see in photo 1. I didn't finish it or anything, just planed one side (the top) of the slats before throwing the table together. I used about 60% of the wood, not bad for salvaged lumber. There are 3 cross braces underneath, which I used a treated 2×4, but the rest is all teak. At least I'm pretty sure that's what it is. My neighbors love it and, as you can see, are already loading it up with potted herbs.

Question.. should I oil this or anything, or is it okay as it is?

Thanks for looking! :)

Excellent recycling. That is the best wood you could have used, too. Nice sturdy table. Some people don't know what they are really throwing away. Good thing you found it!!

I priced similar patio chaises via Google and they run from $1300 on up. Nothing special about the construction, so the high price tag is obviously due to the material.

ShaneA, it's about the same in my area, as I recently discovered.

TS, thanks.. today was one of those days. :)

Jim, I don't think my neighbors would have known what to do with the wood even if they did know what it's worth. ;-)

My brother while in art school would get motorcycle shipping crates to make picture frames on the cheap. They were mostly mahogany and could be made to look good. Spring is the time to get them tho.
Nice work Ted!

Salvaged lumber is the best! What's best about it is - It's free! I do a lot of my projects with salvaged pallet wood from work! God bless!

There's a reason why teak is used on boats! It will stand up well either finished or naked.
