Project Information

I had an order come in from my Etsy shop…
This custom set of table number placecard holders was made from the natural branch of a native hardwood… I think the timber is Ironbark but I am not sure… there are twelve pieces in the set and each is different and unique…

The branch came from a tree that was felled several years ago and has seasoned nicely… it is very dense and heavy…

The contrast between the heart wood and the sap wood and the bark is dramatic…

The top is angle cut and there is a kerf [saw cut groove] across the top to hold a place card with the table number on it…

Finished with two coats of satin Polyurethane and wax…

I feel honoured to be asked to supply the holders for Tory's wedding.

They will be personally delivered this week…

Nice timber and good idea for holding cards. It looks to me it is ironbark, as you say.
Is it the start to try woodturning?

Unusual and nice idea for rustic place cards Larry. I've never seen such a contrast between heartwood and what we call Spring wood (Spring growth) here.

I had to pick up a few things from my woodworking store yesterday and my wife came into the store with me. She has never been particularly interested in my woodworking, but while there, to my amazement she found something she liked!

It was some artfully cut thick squares of wood about 12"X 12" with abstract designs. Each one was painted with several different acrylic colors and very nicely done.

I could see the wind go out of her sails when I told her they were turned on a lathe. And considering that there were grooves in the abstract design near the edges it would take a lathe with a big swing to accomplish the eccentric mount required to turn them.

I told her that if she bought me a much bigger lathe I could make some for her. She is still laughing.

Very nice grain you got there. I see people are using wood more and more to decorate weddings, baby showers, and anniversary parties. Another new area of woodworking.

Heavy and dense, huh? This place isn't prone to bar fights, is it????
