e 3 years of trial &error. They are made with 1×8 treated lumber. They are 3 layers thick. The 2 outside layers have 8 pieces each cut 12 inches long & 1-3/4 inches wide. Ends are cut at 22-1/2 degree angles. Should form a circle. Spokes are 14 inches long. All cut with a mitre jig on table saw. Inner ends are cut with 15 degree angles so they fit together in the center. 7 inch rounds on each side of center. I let the spokes stick through the hub initially. Put down the first ring and put your spokes in place. Cut spacers to fit between spokes to form middle layer.glue, nails & screws hold it together. Cur tips off any spokes sticking out. Sand and round rim edges. That's the basics.

Good work Monte, I like your design. After 32 I guess that makes you a wagon maker for sure

Monte my friend, That is just too cool. Your description of building the wheels sounds interesting. I'll bet they got easier after the first 100! Now you need to get a couple of ponies and take that to town.

I love it. I always wanted to make one but the spoke, hub and axle connection always seemed like it would be the biggest problem. Do you have something made for the hub or am I over thinking it?

Because it is not intended to be moved a lot, the axles are just 1/2×8 lag bolts. The round on the wheel is 7 inches. So I make one 5 inches & drill an 1-1/2 hole in center to go around the head of bolt. The a 4 inch round to cover up the hole.

I have a bunch of these to make, so I'll try to take pictures & post a blog for it.

My great granpa made wagons like this one , for family members. This brings back memeries of my childhood playing in my aunts yard. She had a cast concrete libery boy at the front of the wagon.
I have all ways wanted to build some to replace the ones that have long wasted away.

In memery of my GREAT GRANDPA
