Project Information

Once upon a time…. At first we were unsure if we were even going to take this piece, then unsure if we should bother even tying it down. We had a kind of, "if it falls off it falls off" attitude since the rest of the wood that we had loaded seemed to be more than enough for what we had paid. In the picture of the flat bed truck, it is the smallest piece in the top right hand corner. I am sure glad that we decided to take this 36" piece of black walnut firewood. I have dreamed of coming across a piece like this for a very long time and recently I have been blessed, in more ways than one. Luckily there is a bookmatched sister slab to this one, that I am more than likely to keep in my companies' private collection. This table will soon belong to a special lady, and I could not be happier to know that she will cherish it very much. For all those involved, (you know who you are) Thank-you very much

Very nice chunk of wood and a beautiful table. What is the process for aging a slab, and reducing cracking?

Like flowerdog I'm also curious how you dried it to reduce cracking. I have a few maple slabs that I sealed with end sealer about 6 months ago and they haven't cracked yet but I have a feeling they aren't drying either as there really isn't any exposed wood. How did you do it?
