Project Information

We found this old book case in a used furniture store around back locked up in a storage shed. Got it for $10.bucks. The center rail was broken out and missing completely and it had about 8 or 9 coats of some of the ugliest paint on it I ever seen. I milled a new peice for the center and tried to make it look the same. We took it down to bare wood the best we could and then stained it with cherry stain. I did replace the handles on the doors the ones that were on looked like a bad dream from the 60's. We use it to store old video tapes for now. I don't know how old this item is or any of its history. but all of the screws were slotted and had flat noses they tell me those were not made after the 20's maybe some one out there knows….....................All coments welcome…........................Schloemoe

I think 1860 is when the machinery became available to make the pointed-end screws we use now, so any time after that. Very nice restoration job.

Good find.

Just the lumber is worth more than $10.
