Project Information

These planes are adapted from the plow/grooving planes featured in a FWW article last year. I need to cut some grooves for drawer bottoms in the project I am working on (pair of shaker side tables), and am trying not to use my router or table saw to make the tables.

I made them a bit thicker than was recommended, but this ended up being comfortable and easier (since I also dimension my stock by hand).

These were made out of some scrap 4/4 white oak I had. The middle is a thin board of Brazilian cherry planed to the thickness of the chisel.

These were surprisingly easy to make, and they work beautifully. I have already used them on another project (a box I made) & they performed well. Best of all, no sawdust and no noise while I use them.

I will definitely be making more wooden planes in the future.

That is awesome, love to see the hand tools/hand made tools coming out. Those are some nice looking dovetails in the back as well.
