Project Information

Okay, its been awhile since I joined and I have had nothing good to post.
Until today, I finished my Moxon vise and am pretty happy so far.
On the horizon I am working out the details (read finances) to start building a real bench(Roubo split top ala the Woodwisperer). I think this vise would go well with a proper bench.

Very cool. This looks like the solution to the problem I have of not owning a workbench. Currently the only vise I have is a hobbyists vise that I got from Woodcraft. With your type of vise I could clamp it to the outfeed section of my table saw and have the ability to clamp much larger pieces of material. This is going into my favorites for sure. Thanks for the post.

Great vise. Where did you get the threaded rod from?

Yes, I agree with the other comments about how nice it is. I am also interested in where the threaded rod came from, and tell us more about the handles you made to turn the rod? I bet you can clamp up a huge item with that unit!

Finally somebody is taking on this vise; building it out of "off the shelf" parts.
Great, give us all the details, please.
Could you do a blog on this Moxon??

Thanks,
ya this is one handy vise to make/have, I don't remember the name of the place I got the threaded rod from, but I will find the receipt and post the place. If I remember right it was like 60 bucks for the rod and bolts, still have some left will have to come up with another project to use it.

Great vise! I built one and have found it pretty handy so far.

With respect to the threaded rod, my local ace hardware carries it, so that would be one place I would check before purchasing it online and paying shipping.

I have been looking into building one of these myself, great idea about using standard parts. I was looking into the kit sold by Tools for Working Wood (Kit of a pair of bench screws), it seems reasonably priced at $59.95.

Picho,
That looks like a nice kit and you can't go wrong with Tool for Working Wood, I thought about getting the kit you linked to as well, but for me it came down to the point of "I had to stop over-thinking the project" and get something done so I used parts that I had in the shop. I got the threaded rod idea from another post, I don't remember where/who did the post, but some credit goes to that post at least for the metal parts and where to get them.
Good luck and post your finished project would really like to see this one.
