Project Information
I wanted to create something that I could put my beer on while I was playing darts. This is in a small 10'x11' room. I have a belief that if you can mount something on the wall, and you can clearly see the floor, then it doesn't really take up any space in the room. It also makes vacuuming really easy!
This is only the 2nd piece of furniture that I have made and I have a lot of ideas about how to improve upon it. I love how clean it appears, but I want to incorporate more curves in the next one. I'm thinking about some kind of a fair curve along the length of the drawer bottoms. If you guys have any ideas let me know.
This project measures 73"long x 13"tall x 12 3/8" deep and it is made of several woods. the Top is Wenge, Yellowheart, and Leopardwood. The Case and drawers are made of Wenge and Sapele.
The drawer fronts are a Sapele overlay, with through dovetailed Wenge and Sapele for the drawer boxes. I used 10" accuride drawer slides. I think I will go with some Blum drawer slides next time.
The picture with the drawer open also shows 2 small boxes that I made, 1 of which was the inspiration for the top made of wenge, yellow heart, and leoparwood.
The top was a bit challenging to make for my beginner level skills, but it turned out pretty well. I used a roundover on the top edge and a 45 degree chamfer on the bottom. I bought two handplanes and started learning how to use them on this project. Learning and trying to teach wood working to myself has been an amazing experience so far. It is humbing how much I still feel that I need to learn.
