Project Information

This is my cervical chair I designed and made for my chiropractic schooling. The cheapest of these sold online are like $400. Well screw that (I said).....I can make this!! About $60 later…and here you go. The backrest is held up by a maple board. There are notches cut out on the bottom (maple) piece that allows you to set the backrest at different angles, depending on height of the patient and the segment (bone) I'm adjusting. There are also several chiropractic techniques that you dont want a backrest at all. The hinges allow me to make the backrest fall to the floor and out of the way.

I meant to take pics of the build process but totally forgot. It is made from pine 2×2's (legs), and 1×6's and plywood for base and backrest. I upholstered it myself as well! Everything is glued and screwed.

Nicely done. Simple and functional. Did you do the upholstery yourself as well?

Great Job! Why did you use pine 2×2 legs? I think that you might end up replacing those one of these day when a 300 pound client sits on it. Good luck with your schooling. Cheers.

Nicely done. I built all the flat tables for my office when we opened 25 years ago. Still have a few in use today, though they have been recovered a few times.
Good luck with your studies and watch those fingers and thumbs, you are gonna need those.

I didn't use hardwood for the legs bc that would add like $30 to the cost, and I'm building these for students for a cheaper option. I wanted to keep cost down as much as possible. The pine 2×2's seem like they are plenty strong. They are glued and screwed to the frame.

I'll be attending chiropractic school down in Florida in another 18 months (give or take). Wondering where you attend and if you're able to get extra credit…or even some plans for others to use.

Hey Smoke! I wish you the best of luck down in Florida. I'm guessing you're attending Palmer?? Not sure if there's another one in Florida? I attend Palmer College in Davenport - where it all began! You are going to love it.

PM me and I'll see if I can send some plans your way….

That leaves about $340.00, for new tools, right? LOL. Forgive me, did you marry yet? I've read a few of your blogs and comments and always enjoy, though I rarely comment. Best wishes in your every endeavor. No doubt, you have a bright future.

It's been a while since I've made one. I used to make/sell them while I was in Chiropractic school. The hardest part would be the shipping situation. Where do you live?
