I made this oak bed frame to complete my bedroom set. The original design was from wood magazine Issue 187 November 2008:
But I didn't really like the pencil-posts or canopy top, then I found a video from St Pierre Woodworking on how to make the spiral legs.
To make the legs round, I made this simple jig for the router:
After I laid out the spiral lines and drilled the holes, I used an angle grinder to grind the spiral in the legs.
Then I turned the tops of the posts on the lathe, which was my first time using the lathe. After the bed was complete I stained and polyurethane it to match my bedroom set. I hung the legs up so it would be easier to finish:
