Have you guys ever seen an ancient drill press like this one? It's old…fortunately for more accurate work, I have access to a 24" radial floor model. This drill press in the accompanying photos is so heavy that I had to build a screw jack to raise and lower the drilling head for adjusting it on the column. I try to avoid this at all costs; I build risers for the drilling table. I think I'm going to build one of those that clamps to the column if I can it square enough the axis of the spindle.

My shops pitiful isn't it, but it's a lot more than some people have in this world and it is fun and entertaining. Plus most importantly, it has a Home Depot bucket for a seat so I can sit down and contemplate.

Wow, the pistol grip makes it look like it was designed to be hand-held. Crazy. Thanks for posting.

Kinda like my old drill press… http://lumberjocks.com/projects/58170 the good thing about my old drill is it has a tonne of torque… it will drill through anything…

I believe that it was designed to be hand held. It's a monster isn't it! It does have a lot of torque. It is a drill motor mounted in a drilling whatever like the contemporary ones for turning your hand drill into a drill press. It is so heavy that I had to make a screw jack to lift and lower it. I tried bungies to the joists first but they didn't provide enough assitance and offset to the weight of the drill when I losened the clamp. You can see the screw jack near the pipe column.
