Project Information

This design is very similar to the last box I created. My wife suggested that I make one like it but in a lighter wood. i value her input..so here it is. I do like the cherry and bloodwood combination even though it does not have the highly figured grain as other woods…but then again different is good especially since everyone has different tastes.
So far I have 4 of the seven coats of lacquer on it but I decided to take the photos after buffing it down with 0000 steel wool…hopefully less glare even though I use a satin finish. The photos did seem to come out wwith less glare by doing it this way…so maybe I have found a better way to photograph them.

Hey great box again Greg. How about making a video of you carving a box on YouTube. I would enjoy watching a master in action. Cheers.

You are a master!

I would love to see a full size cabinet (i.e. armoire or end table) done like this.

To Tokolosi, check his website at www.FineArtBoxes.com and the tables are there. Every bit as beautiful as the boxes. I would like to see a how-it's-done video. Even though the perfection is beyond my current shill level.

Greg, that is just excellent! I like Padauk a lot, but this is a good combination. The detail around the lift is very nice and I can see more details of the sculpting. Hope the show crowds are appreciative.

Greg, You've done it again! Another great choice of woods. I like the contrast but the cherry will likely darken with time for lessdramatic contrast but it will still be beautiful. When you come to Tuksa for gumbo you can give me a sculpting lesson (outdoors!). I'll furnish the box, beer, shrimp, and gumbo while you furnish the skill/expertise.

Nice wood contrast. I like the uniform carving I think a little better than the other style. Great job.

Again thanks very much. I am always humbled by the positive comments from everyone. I hope to take some process photos of making a box and my new sculpting room after completing my show at the new orleans Jazz Fest in May. Right now I am concentrating on getting as much created as possible before my show in Houston this month and Jazz Fest in May….and fitting in a couple of commissions I have taken on. Sometimes there just are not enuf' hours in the day. When I made my first box I never imagined I would get this busy…but I wouldn't want it any other way.
