Project Information

This project has been going on since a week before Christmas. And has been very hard for me. I wanted to do something that was my design. The base is sapele and the top is black walnut and I used some ceder for the bottom. I had only taken the time to draw the leg assembly. The rest was all from the hip.
I blogged about some of the build.

I have learned a lot. And now my wife has a place to sit and put her shoes on before work. I am not very happy with the finish. It is all shellac and oils.
During the build I learned about the golden rectangle. I have since built a Fibonacci gauge. I have have learned one thing. The leg design is all on 6:1 and it works out close to the 1.618. The leg assembly was in the golden zone. Cool.
Thanks for your time to view my project. ;)

Dave, nice bench! Glad it was as a bit of a challenge and that you worked through it. I need to build me a Fibonacci gauge one of these days.

Interesting legs, by the way.

Dave, I really like the bench. The black walnut, with some of the sapwood intact, in particular gives me several ideas on what to do with the black walnut I have stacked up. Thanks for the submittal.

I later found out that the board was nash sawed. It was found in a antique shop, in the corner collecting dust. That was the hardest walnut I ever had to work with. Thanks for the comment.
