Project Information

Here is a table I designed and created for a repeat customer. This project started with some really unique Scottish quarter-sawn white oak. The top is made out of four sequentially cut boards from the same flitch. The two inner boards are bookmatched and the two outer boards are slipmatched. Each leg started out as 5"x5" and feature massive hand-carved ball and claw feet with scales and feathers and have hand-carved acanthus knees. The aprons were custom designed on the computer and feature a unique transition to the top of each leg. The table top features hand-carved edges that carry around the perimeter.

Love the carving around the table edge. A very nice approach as opposed to banding or an ogee profile. It fits the piece much better. Reminds me of something rococo?

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Coopman: Yes! The client definitely had a Rococo style to their other furnishing. The scale, acanthus carvings and overall lines were meant to reflect this influence.
