Project Information
The counter staff at my gym were discussing the 'Zombie Apocalypse' recently, an End of the World scenario that, to me, is equally probable and credible to those postulated by the Mayans, Harold Camping, and any other doomsday prophet I've ever heard.
Anyway, without commenting on the likelihood of such an end, I made a gift for this hardworking and reliable crew: A hand-forged spear point, based on historical medieval models. I suspect that zombies will be no more hardy than were Norman invaders, against whom these lethally effective on contact.
The stand is made of maple cast-offs from other shop projects, incorporating a neodymium magnet to hold the spear point in position. The finish is a simple, if blotchy, stain (I had no time to do a toning coat prior to staining) and finished with a couple of coats of spray lacquer. The completed stand is vaguely Art Deco, sort of a default design style for me I suppose.
The gift went over quite well. I advised those who could do so to run in case of zombie attack; this weapon is intended solely for the slowest sprinter in the group! ;0)
