splashmaster, it will hold a 90-100 pound child, their fishing gear and maybe some of their camping gear on calm water. they will barely float my 200 pounds if i dont paddle too fast !

Cool! Lucky grandkids indeed. I looked at making a canoe from that website before I decided on making a strip canoe.

skipper55, after the sides are scarfed together measure up 1 inch from the bottom at the center of one side panel.
usiing some pcv pipe, thin scrap stock or whatever method you prefer create a fair arc to the ends.transfer to other side panel. when the sides and bottom are assembled and you spread the top out this will keep your rocker from becoming excessive. you can assemble the canoe with masking tape and check this out before cutting the arc. you may decide on a different arc.

A personal boat for the grand kids. Too cool. I noticed a strip canoe in the background. I assume you built it.

A canoe is one of those round-bottom thingies like in the third photo. What you've got there is a first-class Cajun pirogue!

these are quick and easy to build. for an adult i would recommend building the 14' on bateau2.coms website. i built one with their plans ( and i dont do well with plans ) out of luann plywood that i used for about 3 years before 1 of my daughters capsized it and we lost it under a log jam on the flint river. it had been repainted 2 or 3 times and had some delamination but i think it would have been around another year or 2. wish i could find a deal on some marine plywood.but i cant stand 80.00 a sheet when luann is 12.00.
