Project Information

This is a bed that was completed in January 2011. It is a knock off of my Original Storage Bed. I basically took the bookcase top section off and raised the storage area under the headboard.

I call it the Storage Bed II. It has a lot of storage. I only have drawers on one side. Those drawers are a little different then the normal captain's pedestal that I build. I took one set of the stacked drawers and made a large drawer. Also since it was going against the wall and no need for drawers on the back side. I utilized the space with a five foot drawer that pull out at the foot.

The finish was a cappuccino finish using dye stains, wiping, stains and pre-catalyzed lacquer. More information and pictures see the customer's page

Nice work, Chris.

Doesn't making all these beds make you sleepy? I think if I was building them, the power of suggestion would make me kind of tired.

I love your use of space. I never thought about the headboard area. Does it open on both sides or just one?

We are getting ready to build beds for my boys. Storage and space are two issues with which I have to deal. I will surely revisit this page to get some ideas.

Nice work. Thank you for posting.

Hi
I apologize if you have talked about this somewhere before, but…
do you put a ledge on the platform to hold the mattress from sliding off (or crooked)?
Or do you find that is not necessary?

Thanks,

Julie, some designs I do. This one, however, does not. I usually have no problem with it moving much. I have had customers use those carpet gripers between the mattress and platform.

Thanks Chris.
I was just curious as to what the professionals do, as I hope to make a similar bed in the future.

What a wonderful way to use all available space. I live in a tiny house and need all the storage I can get! The deep drawer at the foot (side) is a great feature! Is that another storage drawer using space in the headboard? How would it look as a night stand that could be left out or hidden?
