Project Information

I saw a similar heart at the wood carving demonstration at Woodcraft a few weeks ago. Bearclaw Jack had a red one that he carved and I thought I'd try it to get some practice for shaping the spoon heads. I was surprised that this one did not come out more purple-it is made from purple heart wood. I thought it would be neat to have a purple heart purple heart! This one will be a gift for someone who was seriously wounded.
The envelope is made from black felt. I found I am not too good at making fabric envelopes!!

I see what you did there - Purple Heart…....Purple….... Heart…... ;-)

Nicely done and very thoughtful. I see nothing wrong with the pouch either!

I am certain it will be received well.

Hi Pete. I sleep but my mind never stops. I dream about this stuff all night and then draw it out in the morning.

This heart was mailed this morning but not to a service man. I sent it to Gabby Gifford who was almost killed in Tucson last winter. I don't know what the government does for civilian people in service to our country who get shot doing their job so I thought she should have it. I could not think of a more deserving person for what she has been through!!...........Jim

real nice shape i hope it find a deserving Marine or soldier now about the color next ime you make one place the unfinished piece in the oven not the microwave as 125 to 150 for about 15 minutes the heat will make the color pop back to like I dont know if this works when you finished it already but it does work

Now your project is great i love the whole concept the design is great I give this 5out of 5 stars on my star scale great job

It's beautiful Jim.
The box I made for my daughter of purple heart was also quite brown but I think it's getting more read slowly, perhaps like love it grows in the hands of the right person.
My best thoughts,
Mads

Excellent job, Jim, and even better choice of recipient.
Next one you make, put a purple ribbon on it. Makes it look even more like the gov't issue ones.
As for the browning, when you have everything but the finishing done, put it out in direct sunlight or under an ultraviolet lightg for a while to bring the colour back. Works like a charm.
You might want to find some redheart and do one from it. Good for Valentine's day. Also much less fattening than chocolates. :)

Hi Cher. I hope she got to see it. I did get a nice thank you note from her staff in Tucson.
I like to be busy. We are leaving in a few days for Arizona and I have my last two projects for the year going on today. I hope I get them done. I manage my time by taking care of my wife's "priorities" first and then I spend most of the day in the shop. I have a endless list of things on the drawing board. I drop in a few things like this heart here and there because I have a pretty scrap of wood that cries out to become something other than fire wood. I'm not a carver, but I'll try anything once!

See ya and have a Merry Christmas..This one will be especially hard for you and me too with the loss of my mom!

God Bless You…......................Jim

Hi Jim, I hope she gets to see it too, a special gift from a special person.
I know that if one has the right tools for the job then things go smoothly, I imagine that you have an organized shop over there. I too like to be busy but sometimes I have to stop because I loose track of time so quickly.
It was just the other day that you made the bird hotel for your Mom, that is a lovely memory of her, you were a good son Jim and I know she was very proud of you, I know this because my son is so good to me, it is as if he has taken over where Henry left off.
Take good care Jim and have a safe journey.
A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

GOD BLESS YOU TOO JIM AND THANKS FOR BEING A GREAT FRIEND
