Project Information
This carving center was inspired by a project I seen on LJ's {sorry dont remember who's it was} but this gent put his vacume in a cabinet under his router.
As I use the Dremal or other dust causing tools, and after getting the worst rash of my life from head to toe due to sanding and breathing the dust from Olivewood. I love the wood and was not happy thinking it would be better in the fireplace.
Anyway I decided to build a carving station that hopefully would sufice my need for storage as well as being very functional.
I started looking for wood to build it and decided that the left over scrap melamene from a previous project would be fine for such a project.
I took an old but not worn out mini vacume with awesome suction and motified it and stood it up rite, connecting the power cord to a switch on the side of the cabinet to control off/on function w/o opening the compartment each time.
I added a table for working on its approx. 18"X18" centered a metal box and connected duct work made from same scrap material just a bit thinner. Next I decided to started with the drawers and get them finished up and installed in the cabinet. I needed this carving table to be mobile so I added 3" casters w/one set locking.
I inset the top of the cabinet so that the carving knives would not roll off and hit the floor(OUCH). As I was looking at the table I decided to put a retractable extension cord from another old vacume in the cabinet. It made for easier movement w/o messing around with rolled up cord on the outside of the cabinet hanging up.
Thank you for the look
