Project Information

Spade shaped band saw box. My first wood shop project in about 24 years. It was fun. But I am rusty. Cutting thick wood on a band saw is a new experience as well. But I will learn with a little practice. It is 5¼ inches high, 4⅛ inches wide, and 4 inches deep. Wood is some kind of pine. Minwax ebony stain on box, red oak stain on drawer. Minwax spray satin finish.

I like this a lot.

Most of the bandsaw boxes I see tend to be so…overwrought.

So how does this work, you cut the back off, saw out the inside, then cut the front and back off the drawer?

You pretty much got it. I had never heard of a band saw box. But I kept running into them doing google searches on band saws that were coming up on craigslist. I wanted a good deal, and to have an idea of what I was buying.

So I did a search on youtube and found Steve Ramsey's Woodworking for Mere Mortals channel. And watched his video here, http://www.youtube.com/user/stevinmarin#p/u/68/JtJ3OOpp4Dw.

An instant favourite. Rear handle no handle is perfect for this and a great back visual to boot.
This is a great shape and finish, and while you may be a bit rusty remember that rust never sleeps, nor does it dream.
