From what I understood, inlay only goes partially into the piece while marquetry goes all the way through.

Here's an example of inlay that I did on a table a while ago: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/31999

If you are cutting the pattern out and fitting another piece into the cut out, I would say it's marquetry.

Either way - that looks GOOOOOOOOOOOD!

Diggerjacks, this particular piece it took one try, but there were other "test" pieces that I tried before to work out the details first. I have been working on the techique for about 2 years by this time.

Littlecope, I was thinking the exact same thing. I think it would be a nice addition to a box. We'll see,....

A real stunner, Coz. I'm generally an arachnophobe but this one doesn't cause any problems at all. Good cutting.

Very nice work Cosmo. I've done a little marquetry and I'd say you're on the track to a hugely rewarding branch of woodworking. I look forward to your future marquetry posts.

Mike,
The first look seems to be a paper pasted on a woodboard. The accuracy of the joints being beveled will depend on cutting it on the precise tilt angle and the position where the pattern held (I am thinking that the cut being the smaller portion will be towards the center of the pattern making a tapered figure. This is difficult to imagine, how much more in actually doing it.) That is where you had an extra skill controlling the accuracy in making this outstanding spider. Thanks for posting.
