Project Information
My last project was a storage & work bench using unfinished kitchen type cabinets from Home Depot. I liked the Home Depot cabinets so much I decided to use them for an 8 foot long stand for my radial arm saw. I used one 24" cabinet sandwitched between two 36" cabinets. The 24" center cabinet needed to be modified a bit to make room for the elevation crank handle on the saw. I removed the drawer & top rail of the cabinet & made a shelf in it's place. For the top I used an 8 foot long by 26 inch deep piece of sanded plywood. Again I made cleats to go around the top of the cabinets to more securely mount the top to. After mounting the saw in the center of the bench I made two wing extensions to support long stock on both sides of the saw table. I used "I" beam type of construction so I could clamp them to the edge of the bench. The extensions can also be moved out for longer stock & can also be pushed to the back of the bench to make that area available for other uses. The top of the saw table ended up about 2" higher off of the floor & I considered lowering the saw into the cabinet but it isn't any harder to use so I left it alone. The additional storage space is "GRAND"! All that's left is a couple of coats of paint.
