Project Information

Panel gauge
with brass bar and wheel cutter.

Here a panel gauge I made to match my other gauges, and my deep gauge in same design, ohhh yes and to enjoy making it.

It has a Veritas wheel cutter wheel in one end and a whole for a pin or a pencil in the other, it's fitted with a brass bar, but this can be replaced by a hardwood bar if a longer is needed.
(I almost forgot to post this one).

Pictures:
1. Gauge shining.
2. The parts.
3. Designing and matching with the deep gauge.
4. Using the wheel.
5. Using a pen.
6. Full size.

Hope it can be to some inspiration,

again, beautiful project. I hope you come out with a book one day on hand tools with a large section on making your own hand tools, marking gauges etc. It would be at the top of my list to read.

Always nice to see someones layout lines, how they started their work. How did you do that long narrow square hole? It must be just right I know from your work.

If I call you the LJ Official Tool Maker, I guess there would be few objections out there.

I should try to make one…it is not if but when.

Nice work there Mads. Can you show a close-up picture of the brass thumb screw fitting which I presume you got ready made?
And those mechanical pencils I keep seeing there are exactly what I like to use -but never been able to find them here-only weak ones….
