I love this puzzle.
I made one as well, using a big 4" nail that can rattle back and forth.
I brought it into work and no one could figure out how it was done.
Even when I told them how, they didn't believe it.
Well done.
It appears there are two methods. One which allows for cutting, the other the the water. I can understand the women guessing the cutting but, the water deal like Steve did….
Do any of you watch Roy Underhill on PBS?........... All of you are wrong. At least, if you did it the way you suggest, it would be the hard way…......

I should have read all the post better. Matt (post 11) has the answer. I'm sure there are other ways to do it, but this is the best one. Joe (post 7) had it too.
