Well i have reached a pinnacle point in my woodworking..lol..I made this jewelry box which features a couple of FIRSTS for me… It is joined together with Hand Cut dove tail joinery and also has to bird's eye maple inlays …having never done dovetails much less hand cut, or inlays..i was please with how this turned out…It is made of cherry and walnut.. take a look at the colors of the walnut grain what a beautiful piece of wood..i knew it was special as soon as i milled it preparing for this project and saw the various colors running through the grain.I finished it off with 5 coats of lacquer..everything was hand made including the etched brass plate.

Great job on your "firsts". The brass plate is very cool! How did you make it? Were the inlays hand or router template cut?

The inlays were routered in i made the templates on the scrollsaw. and then used a router with an inlay bit set to make the inlays… The brass plate was made by taking a piece of brass, cutting it to the size i wanted. printing a design on my computer making sure it was printed in "Mirror image" reversed…then taken to a local office supply store where i then made a zerox copy using Transparency Film. the zerox TONER acts as a resist for the etching solution. back at the shop cut out the design to fit the brass plate and place a papertowel or cloth over it and place an iron ontop of it to basically iron transfer the ink from the transparency film to the brass….it takes a while you want to make sure you have a good transfer…once its transfered and the image looks good on the brass plate place it in an etching solution Ferric Cloride bath for 45 minutes making sure to aggitate the bowl every now and again so the works evenly across the plate.. after 45 minute, remove the plate from the etching solution and rinse with warm water. take 320 sandpaper and lightly sand away the toner revealing the raised image.. i took a flat brown fast drying spraypaint and painted the plate once dry 320 sand paper to sand away the paint over the image and around the edges…
