Project Information

Being new to the site, I have an accumulation of older projects created the past few years to upload. Here are three:

The first is a poplar couch table that other than the top, doesn't get seen much, sitting as it does behind the couch (pulled out of the way to see the table). I can't claim the legs for this table or the second table - they're stair railing spindles. I made this 2 years ago.

The second is a table for our computer printer which currently hold a turntable and computer link to allow me to convert albums into electronic files. This was made 5 years ago, and I can't recall if it is poplar or maple.

The last is a set of doors into our formal living room created to replace a toddler gate that was keeping a set of Yorkie puppies out. I got tired of climbing over the gate or opening and closing it every time I want to enter the room. And while the Yorkies only need about a 2 ft high block to keep them out but since I don't like to bend, I made the doors high. It was my first attempt at mortise and tenon joints. I may have made the tenons a bit long - 2 1/2 inch for the 3 inch side rails. I didn't want to have the frames shift out of alignment once they were hung.

The doors are a great idea. Is the circle used to lock them? Or does the spring action keep everyone out? The table look light and well built at the same time. Nice project, Great Workmenship. Thanks for sharing and welcome to a great web site LJ"s.

Dominic,
The circle is essential the locking mechanism- it sits on top of the doors and just slides left or right Enough to keep the dogs from opening it, but easy for people. Also, it will break before pulling the doors or hinges off. I didn't want to get into a complex brass sliding lock that people would have to figure out or anything that would show and detract from the look.
