Project Information

The planing breakaway aid is from the April issue of WWJ - an alternative to chamfering the edge before you plane. You can make one in 5 - 10 minutes.

I have a Veritas low angle block plane with a 25-degree blade in it for planing endgrain. When I want to use it as a standard block plane, I change the blade to one that's sharpened at 33 degrees (the bed angle is 12 degrees, together the cutting angle will be 45 degrees) - an alternative to having two block planes!

Very smart. I've blown out a lot of end-grain thinking, "I'll just be careful";)

Good tip. Why wouldn't you want more than one block plane? I have 7 or 8. I lose count.
